After giving the Ten Commandments to the people of Israel and the mixed multitude assembled with them, the people became so afraid of the thunder and lightning, trumpet blasting, and the mountain smoking that they trembled with fear, stayed at a distance and began to withdraw from the presence of the Almighty.
Angels have been intricately involved with mankind from the beginning of time. From Genesis to Revelation, angels have played critical roles in assisting men on their journeys, warning men of impending danger, redeeming men from danger, communicating to men messages from YeHoVaH, etc.
The Sabbath Day was created by YeHoVaH on the seventh and final day of Creation. On the seventh day, YeHoVaH rested from His labor and set the example for His creation.
We live in the information age. Misinformation, lies, and rumors can spread fast via the Internet and Social Media Platforms. Cell phones, Photoshop, and video editing software, can make fake news look real and ruin people’s lives in the twinkling of an eye.
Imagine six hundred thousand men, besides women and children, being delivered from slavery under the cruel bondage of Egypt.
As the Hebrew Israelites gathered at Mt. Sinai and heard YeHoVaH Almighty give the Ten Commandments, fear gripped their hearts. This caused them to withdraw from the mountain and send Moses to speak to the Almighty on their behalf. While Moses communed with YeHoVaH in the mountain, he was given the Commandments, Statues, Judgments, and Ordinances for the newly formed Nation of Israel.
YeHoVaH, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, Maker of all things, and Giver of life considered the taking of life a very serious matter. Moses, who had taken an Egyptian’s life and fled to Midian, found himself in the presence of the Almighty receiving instructions for the death penalty as a judgment for the taking of a life.
Slavery is a difficult subject in many cultures worldwide. The practice of slavery and the slave trade existed long before Israel became a nation. Slavery was a topic the Hebrew Israelites would have been very familiar with because they were slaves in Egypt before being delivered by YeHoVaH. As former slaves themselves, Moses was given strict instructions about Hebrews purchasing Hebrews as slaves and rules governing the treatment of Hebrew slaves.
In our last study, God Speaks Pt 2 – The Law & Eternal Life, we saw that Yeshua connected the giving of the Ten Commandments to questions asked Him about obtaining or inheriting eternal life.
