Colossians 4 concludes Paul’s letter by moving from the responsibilities of the masters to their slaves, to directing the Colossian and Laodicean Believers to target their prayers with thanksgiving so that doors would be continually open to proclaim the Mystery of Messiah. Believers are instructed to live wisely toward outsiders, speak with grace, remain devoted to prayer, and recognize that the work of YeHoVaH is accomplished through a network of faithful servants and faithful partnerships in advancing the message of Messiah. Paul closes his letter by recognizing several individuals instrumental in the work of the Kingdom and then he writes something at the end of Colossians that is not done in any of Paul’s other letters to the various churches.

What does Colossians 4 reveal about prayer and proclaiming the Mystery of Messiah? In Colossians 4, the Apostle Paul concludes his letter by shifting from instruction on authority and responsibility to a strong emphasis on prayer and daily conduct. He urges the Colossian and Laodicean Believers to be devoted to prayer, to pray with thanksgiving, and to remain spiritually alert so that doors would continually be opened to proclaim the Mystery of Messiah.

Paul also instructs Believers to live wisely toward outsiders and to let their speech always be seasoned with grace. These instructions highlight that the message of Messiah is advanced not only through words, but through a lifestyle that reflects wisdom, humility, and spiritual maturity.

As the letter closes, Paul acknowledges several individuals who were instrumental in the work of the Kingdom, emphasizing that the work of YeHoVaH is accomplished through faithful servants and partnerships. He ends Colossians with a personal note unlike any of his other letters, reinforcing the importance of unity, faithfulness, and shared responsibility in advancing the message of Messiah.
