Exodus 19:1-25 A Kingdom of Priests

Moses' mandate, given by YeHoVaH, was to go to Pharaoh and tell him to let Israel go so that they may go and serve YeHoVaH.

Moses was given a sign from YeHoVaH signifying that He had sent Moses to Egypt and where Moses would serve Him.

YeHoVaH called Moses out of Midian and delivered all of Israel out of Egypt to serve the Almighty as a Kingdom of Priests.

In this teaching, we will reveal a parallel between Adam, Moses, Israel, Messiah and all the Saints.  The Saints are those who follow Messiah, our High Priest by faith, those who call on the Name of the One True Elohim, and those who are called to serve in the Kingdom of God/YeHoVaH as a Kingdom of Priests.

  • Ex 19:1 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.
  • Ex 19:2 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.
  • Ex 19:3 And Moses went up unto God, and YeHoVaH called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;

The sign YeHoVaH gave to Moses is now fulfilled as Moses is serving YeHoVaH on the mountain where he received his calling.

  • Ex 3:12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
  • Ex 19:4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.

What had they seen?

YeHoVaH destroyed their enemy.

YeHoVaH brought them to the mountain.

He fought for them.

He fed them.

He gave them water to drink.

He led them.

For what purpose? To serve Him.

Ex 4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith YeHoVaH, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:

Ex 4:23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.

The word serve, in the Hebrew, is the same word used in Genesis, “to till and dress”.

Serve 05647 עָבַד `abad {aw-bad'}

Meaning:  1) to work, serve 1a) (Qal) 1a1) to labour, work, do work 1a2) to work for another, serve another by labour 1a3) to serve as subjects 1a4) to serve (God) 1a5) to serve (with Levitical service) Usage:  AV - serve 227, do 15, till 9, servant 5, work 5, worshippers 5, service 4, dress 2, labour 2, ear 2, misc 14; 290

Mr. and Mrs. Adam were created to serve YeHoVaH in the garden.

Ge 2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for YeHoVaH God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

Ge 2:15 And YeHoVaH God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

But they listened to another voice and were expelled and relieved of duty.

Ge 3:23 Therefore YeHoVaH God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

Israel was delivered from Egypt for the purpose of serving YeHoVaH!

Ex 4:23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.

Ex 7:16 And thou shalt say unto him, YeHoVaH God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.

Ex 8:1 And YeHoVaH spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith YeHoVaH, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

Ex 8:20 And YeHoVaH said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith YeHoVaH, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

Ex 9:1 Then YeHoVaH said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith YeHoVaH God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

Ex 9:13 And YeHoVaH said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith YeHoVaH God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

Ex 10:3 And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith YeHoVaH God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.

Afterwards, Pharoah released the Israelites to go and serve YeHoVaH.

Ex 12:31 And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve YeHoVaH, as ye have said.

The people told Moses they preferred to have served the Egyptians.

Ex 14:12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.

YeHoVaH’s plan was for ALL of Israel to serve Him as a Kingdom of Priests and a

Holy Nation/Goyim.

Ex 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

Ex 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

Nation – 01471 גּוֹי gowy {go'-ee} rarely )shortenedגֹּי ( goy {go'-ee}

Meaning:  n m 1) nation, people 1a) nation, people 1a1) usually of non-Hebrew people 1a2) of descendants of Abraham 1a3) of Israel 1b) of swarm of locusts, other animals (fig.) n pr m 1c) Goyim? = "nations"

Usage:  AV - nation 374, heathen 143, Gentiles 30, people 11; 558

The prerequisite of being a Kingdom of Priests and a Holy nation was “Obey My Voice indeed and keep My Covenant”.

What would make them a Holy nation?

The Holy commandments given by The Holy One

Romans 7:12  Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

2 Peter 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

All of Israel, together, would hear His voice in the next Chapter. The first words they will hear would be what we call today the Ten Commandments.

Before there was an Aaronic priesthood, YeHoVaH’s plan was to establish Israel as a Kingdom of Priests. All of Israel was called to serve YeHoVaH.

Although ALL priests were Levites, not all Levites were priests. The priesthood came from the line of Aaron and his sons.

Ex 19:7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which YeHoVaH commanded him. Ex 19:8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that YeHoVaH hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto YeHoVaH.

The people answered Moses and said what YeHoVaH had said, they would do.

What did He say that they agreed they would do?

You will be a kingdom of priests? Yes

You will be a holy nation? Yes

Before there was an Aaronic priesthood, YeHoVaH’s plan was to establish Israel as a Kingdom of Priests. All of Israel was called to serve YeHoVaH.

Ex 19:9 And YeHoVaH said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto YeHoVaH.

The people would hear YeHoVaH speaking.

They agreed to what YeHoVaH commanded. The next step was to consecrate them and give them the instructions on how to be a Kingdom of Priests and a Holy Nation.

They had to be sanctified and set apart to meet with YeHoVaH.

Ex 19:10 And YeHoVaH said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes,

Ex 19:11 And be ready against the third day: for the third day YeHoVaH will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

Ex 19:12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:

Ex 19:13 There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.

Ex 19:14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

Ex 19:15 And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.

Ex 19:16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

Ex 19:17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

The people experienced the presence of YeHoVaH that produced the fear of YeHoVaH.

Ex 19:18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because YeHoVaH descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

Ex 19:19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

Ex 19:20 And YeHoVaH came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and YeHoVaH called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

Ex 19:21 And YeHoVaH said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto YeHoVaH to gaze, and many of them perish.

Ex 19:22 And let the priests also, which come near to YeHoVaH, sanctify themselves, lest YeHoVaH break forth upon them.

Ex 19:23 And Moses said unto YeHoVaH, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it. Ex 19:24 And YeHoVaH said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto YeHoVaH, lest he break forth upon them.

Ex 19:25 So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.

We have been called to be a Holy and Royal Priesthood.

1Pe 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Yeshua Messiah.

1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Messiah, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

As a current priesthood we offer our bodies as a living sacrifice.

Ro 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

What we do in word or deed is to be done in Yeshua, Col 3:17.

Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of Yeshua, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Whatever your occupation, you as Kingdom of Heaven minded citizens are to do it in the name of Yeshua, giving thanks to YeHoVaH. With that mindset, we will not murmur or complain. If what we are doing, as work, is in any way dishonorable to YeHoVaH, it would become burdensome or hard to continue.
