Exodus 27:1-21 The Outer Court and the Oil

The pattern of the Tabernacle and its dimensions given to Moses by YeHoVaH left no room for error. Moses' input or counsel was not solicited at any time, nor did Moses have a say in anything concerning the Tabernacle and its furnishings. Moses was reminded by YeHoVaH on several occasions to build the Tabernacle according to the pattern shown to Moses on the mountain.

Moses was to gather all the materials together for the building of the Tabernacle and then would be given the blueprint or the pattern for each item that would go in the Tabernacle once it had been built. Moses has been given the instructions for the Most Holy Place, the Holy Place, the Ark of the Testimony, the Candlestick, and the Table of His Presence/Showbread.

In this portion of Exodus, Moses is given the instructions for the Brazen Altar that would be placed in the Courtyard and the oil for the Lampstand.

The Brazen Altar where the sacrifices would be made:

Ex 27:1 And thou shalt make an altar of shittim wood, five cubits long, and five cubits broad; the altar shall be foursquare: and the height thereof shall be three cubits.

Ex 27:2 And thou shalt make the horns of it upon the four corners thereof: his horns shall be of the same: and thou shalt overlay it with brass.

Church tradition and the altar

Church tradition have taken one of these altars to use in reference to the altar in their churches to invite people to give their lives to Jesus or for prayer, deliverance etc.

The Tabernacle consisted of three distinct areas:

  1. The Most Holy Place

  2. The Holy Place

  3. The court/courtyard, aka the Outer Court

Ex 27:9 And thou shalt make the court of the tabernacle: for the south side southward there shall be hangings for the court of fine twined linen of an hundred cubits long for one side:

Ex 27:10 And the twenty pillars thereof and their twenty sockets shall be of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets shall be of silver.

Ex 27:11 And likewise for the north side in length there shall be hangings of an hundred cubits long, and his twenty pillars and their twenty sockets of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets of silver.

Ex 27:12 And for the breadth of the court on the west side shall be hangings of fifty cubits: their pillars ten, and their sockets ten.

Ex 27:13 And the breadth of the court on the east side eastward shall be fifty cubits.

Ex 27:14 The hangings of one side of the gate shall be fifteen cubits: their pillars three, and their sockets three.

Ex 27:15 And on the other side shall be hangings fifteen cubits: their pillars three, and their sockets three.

Ex 27:16 And for the gate of the court shall be an hanging of twenty cubits, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, wrought with needlework: and their pillars shall be four, and their sockets four.

Ex 27:17 All the pillars round about the court shall be filleted with silver; their hooks shall be of silver, and their sockets of brass.

Ex 27:18 The length of the court shall be an hundred cubits, and the breadth fifty every where, and the height five cubits of fine twined linen, and their sockets of brass.

Ex 27:19 All the vessels of the tabernacle in all the service thereof, and all the pins thereof, and all the pins of the court, shall be of brass.

Ex 27:20 And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

First, the oil had to be pure.

Pure – 02134 זַךְ zak {zak}

Meaning:  1) clean, pure 1a) pure 1b) pure, clean, righteous (fig.) 2) the pure one (subst)

Usage:  AV - pure 9, clean 2; 11

Second, the oil had to be from olives.

Olive – 02132 זַיִת zayith {zay'-yith}

Third, the process to get the oil from the olive was to beaten.

  3. For anointing

The oil for the 7 Branch Candlestick/Lampstand/Menorah

There is No reference in Scripture that the process for making oil for the lamps took eight days.

The dangers of traditions in relations to the Tabernacle/Temple and worshipping YeHoVaH is that traditions add to what is written and have people practicing things that are not written as being Scriptural.

The 7 Branch Candlestick/Lampstand/Menorah has Biblical significance.

Messianics have taken the menorah and made it prophetic.

The menorah and its relation to the Feasts:

Tradition and the seven-branch menorah

Tradition and the nine-branch menorah

What is missing in this so-called prophetic menorah is the Feast of the Eighth Day.

The nine-branch menorah is tradition: The oil tradition and Hanukkah.  The nine-branch menorah is not found in the Bible.

Messianic Jews have taken it further and assigned prophecy to the nine-branch hanukkiah.

What is missing in this prophetic menorah is also the Feast of the Eighth Day.

Then there is the fulfilled and the unfulfilled.

Beware of:

  • Jewish and Christian traditions

  • Gematria and Numerology

  • Kabbalah mysticism

  • Creating prophecy that doesn’t exist

  • Spring and Fall Feasts tradition

Fall 2021 in the Northern Hemisphere will begin on Wednesday, September 22.

The First Day of Fall 2021 in the Southern Hemisphere will happen on Saturday, March 20.

Some people will celebrate the Day of Trumpets as the Jewish New Year.  It is NOT The Biblical New Year.

Traditions can be used by the enemy to cause conflicts, confusion, discord, division, offences, and separation.

Stick to what is written

and you can’t go wrong

with YeHoVaH!
