Yeshua said to His Disciples in Matthew 5:20, “For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

Righteousness and religion existed before Yeshua began His earthly Ministry. The righteous religious Scribes and Pharisees held the people to a religious standard determined by them. Those who failed to live up to the standards were considered sinners compared to the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees.
