TODAY’S MESSAGE

Matthew 10:1-42 The Disciples’ Boot Camp Pt 3

Mt 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

Mt 10:24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.

Mt 10:25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

The disciple will become like his/her teacher.

People will practice what their favorite teacher teaches. If you have many teachers, whose teachings are in opposition to one another, you will not become like any one of them.

People will formulate their own doctrine from the many teachers and often times they will become a congregation of one. They will believe what they believe, which will be a smorgasbord of different teachings that cancel each other out.  This renders the person ineffective in discipling others or of being discipled.

Many people pride themselves on being that person. Sad, but true.

People should recognize your teacher from the teachings by which you live and conduct your life.

The religious leaders knew that the disciples of Yeshua had been discipled by Yeshua.

Ac 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

Ac 4:14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

Do not fear. Father will expose or uncover the hidden things.

Mt 10:26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

Stay focused on Yeshua’s teaching and teach what He taught with understanding.

Mt 10:27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.

Say what you hear Him say and do not be afraid of, or fear, those who have perceived power because the worst they can do is put you to death. They have no authority over the soul which is what we should be most concerned about!

Don’t fear the false prophets, priests, Sanhedrin, synagogue rulers, or any others. Yeshua demonstrated His lack of fear before the high priests, chief priests, Pharisees, Sadducees, Herod and POTUS, I mean Pontius Pilate.

Mt 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Hell – 1067 γέεννα geenna {gheh'-en-nah}

Meaning:  1) Hell is the place of the future punishment call "Gehenna" or "Gehenna of fire". This was originally the valley of Hinnom, south of Jerusalem, where the filth and dead animals of the city were cast out and burned; a fit symbol of the wicked and their future destruction. Usage:  AV - hell 9, hell fire + 3588 + 4442 3; 12

Mt 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

Father watches over the sparrow.

 Mt 10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

 Mt 10:31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Father watches over the sparrow and you are more valuable than many sparrows.

In this life, we will either deny ourselves or deny Yeshua in YeHoVaH. You will deny Father and Son who work intimately and intrinsically together. In fact, They are one!

When we go forth in Yeshua’s Name, we go forth in the authority and power of YeHoVaH, who sent Yeshua.

The passage closes with the disciples being compared to prophets and righteous men, the reward given the disciples that help and support them in their journey, and the work of taking the True Gospel of the Kingdom forth amongst the lost sheep of Israel.

Mt 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

Mt 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

 Messiah and the sword:

 The Word of YeHoVaH will cause a separation between those who do the will  of YeHoVaH and those who will not.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Mt 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

The sword is the Word of YeHoVaH that will separate people who do YeHoVaH’s will from those who are doing the religious thing.

Mt 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

Variance – 1369 διχάζω dichazo {dee-khad'-zo}

Meaning:  1) to cut into two parts, cleave asunder, sever

Usage:  AV - to set at variance 1; 1

Mt 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. Mt 10:37 “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;

Foes – 2190 ἐχθρός echthros {ech-thros'}

Meaning:  1) hated, odious, hateful 2) hostile, hating, and opposing another 2a) used of men as at enmity with God by their sin 2a1) opposing (God) in the mind 2a2) a man that is hostile 2a3) a certain enemy 2a4) the hostile one 2a5) the devil who is the most bitter enemy of the divine government Usage:  AV - enemy 30, foe 2; 32

Things that make us unworthy of Messiah:

Putting father, mother, son, or daughter before Messiah.

 The people who typically have the most influence in our lives have the strongest influence.

Mt 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Mt 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

The cross is a symbol of death.

 Finding life is when we lose it for Messiah.

 Mt 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

YeHoVaH, Yeshua, the prophet, the righteous man, and the disciple's reward:

Mt 10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

He that receives you, receives Yeshua. Those that receive Yeshua, receive YeHoVaH.

Mt 10:41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

 Yeshua would preach later and prophesy to the religious leaders:

 Mt 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Mt 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

Mt 23:35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

2Ch 24:20 And the spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you. 2Ch 24:21 And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.

Mt 23:36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

Mt 10:42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

The reward of those who help, assist, and support those who have been sent by Yeshua will be rewarded by YeHoVaH.

The reward is found in Mark.

Mk 10:29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, Mk 10:30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

Yeshua, after giving the disciples instructions, sends them out to gain experience by implementing His instructions.  As they went, they would build their confidence and faith in YeHoVaH before returning to Yeshua to continue their training.
