Matthew 10:1-42 The Disciples’ Boot Camp Pt 2
Last week we laid out Yeshua’s military Bootcamp strategy that was captured beautifully in Ms. Sharon’s Teaching Review.

Here are some reflection from the review of Pt. 1
Basic Battle Training and Demonstrations
They had heard several Kingdom messages.
They had heard the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount.
They had witnessed Yeshua heal all manner of sicknesses, diseases, and the demon possessed.
They had witnessed and heard Yeshua’s declaration about the faith of the Centurion.
They had witnessed the healing of Peter’s mother-in-law and many more healings and deliverances.
They had witnessed Yeshua’s authority over the elements when He calmed the storm.
They had witnessed the deliverance of Legion.
They saw Yeshua’s confrontation with the scribes and heard what He thought about the Pharisees who accused Him of casting out demons by the prince of the devils.
They had witnessed the raising of Jairus’ daughter from the dead.
They had witnessed the two blind men being healed.
Combat Strategies
They had been taught how to pray.
They had been taught how to fast.
They had been warned of false prophets and told how to recognize them.
They had been taught how to judge righteously.
They had been taught how to ask, seek, and knock.
Rest and Relaxation Techniques
They had been taught not to worry and how to seek the Kingdom of YeHoVaH and His righteousness.
They had been told they were the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
They had been informed of the cost required.
They knew the harvest was plentiful, the laborers were few, and that they were being sent into a plentiful harvest to reap the souls that would receive them, and to cast the dust off their feet of those who would not.

Mt 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
Yeshua had identified the false prophets as wolves in sheep clothing earlier in:
Mt 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Mt 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
The prophet Ezekiel prophesied:
Eze 22:24 Son of man, say unto her (Jerusalem), Thou art the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation. Eze 22:25 There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof.
Eze 22:26 Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shown difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Eze 22:27 Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain.
Eze 22:28 And her prophets have daubed them with untempered mortar, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken.
Eze 22:29 The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.
What does it mean to be wise as serpents, but harmless as doves?
The Amplified Bible reads:
Mt 10:16 Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves; be wary and wise as serpents, and be innocent (harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves. [Gen. 3:1]
Wise as serpents – 5429 φρόνιμος phronimos {fron'-ee-mos}
Meaning: 1) intelligent, wise 2) prudent, i.e. mindful of one's interests
Usage: AV - wise 14; 14
Harmless as doves – 185 ἀκέραιος akeraios {ak-er'-ah-yos}
Meaning: 1) unmixed, pure as in wines or metals 2) of the mind, without a mixture of evil, free from guile, innocent, simple
Usage: AV - harmless 2, simple 1; 3
The leaders were as wolves, and wolves metaphorically in sheep’s clothing. They were the religious leaders who claimed authority in and over the lives of the Hebrew/Jewish People. The leaders, who have the law, were not living according to the law and were holding men in bondage to their laws while ignoring the Laws of YeHoVaH.
That is the way it was in Yeshua’s day and that is the way it is now. Religious leaders and politicians claim authority over the lives of people. Religious leaders set up doctrines based on their religion. Men make laws. Politicians are lawmakers. No matter how closely related the laws of men are, even if they are based on the Torah, the laws of men are NOT Torah, the Law of YeHoVaH!
Mt 10:17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
Mt 10:18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
Gentiles – 1484 ἔθνος ethnos {eth'-nos}
Meaning: 1) a multitude (whether of men or of beasts) associated or living together 1a) a company, troop, swarm 2) a multitude of individuals of the same nature or genus 2a) the human race 3) a race, nation, people group 4) in the OT, foreign nations not worshipping the true God, pagans, Gentiles Usage: AV - Gentiles 93, nation 64, heathen 5, people 2; 164
The disciples were sent to the lost sheep of Israel.
They would be brought before Governors and Kings as a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
The Governors, Kings, and Gentiles will not have excuses because the Gospel of the Kingdom was preached in the midst of them all! Governors, Kings, and Gentiles. If they were sent to the lost sheep of Israel how do the Gentiles fit in? The Gentiles are either Hebrews/Jews, who are Israel, but have lost their identity or are acting and living as Gentiles. They are doing, eating, and behaving as Gentiles.
Mt 10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
The disciples were sent out totally reliant on the Holy Spirit of YeHoVaH our Father and the authority given them by Yeshua Messiah.
Mt 10:20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
Mt 10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
The Israelites will turn on the followers of Yeshua presuming they are encouraging people to follow another god, namely Yeshua. This is in accordance to their understanding of the law whereas if anyone tell you come let us go and serve other gods…
Dt 13:6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
Dt 13:7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;
Dt 13:8 Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:
Dt 13:9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.
Dt 13:10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
Dt 13:11 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.
The Jews accused Yeshua of claiming to be equal to God and therefore those who followed Him would be led away from the one true Elohim, even though they had already been lead way from YeHoVaH by the Jewish traditions.
Jn 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
Paul, after his conversion, had no issue with Yeshua in that manner.
Phil 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Yeshua also told them later:
Jn 16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. Jn 16:2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
Jn 16:3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
Mt 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
Mt 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
Saved – 4982 σῴζω sozo {sode'-zo}
Meaning: 1) to save, keep safe and sound, to rescue from danger or destruction 1a) one (from injury or peril) 1a1) to save a suffering one (from perishing), i.e. one suffering from disease, to make well, heal, restore to health 1b1) to preserve one who is in danger of destruction, to save or rescue
1b) to save in the technical biblical sense 1b1) negatively 1b1a) to deliver from the penalties of the Messianic judgment
Usage: AV - save 93, make whole 9, heal 3, be whole 2, misc 3; 110
Mt 10:24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.
Mt 10:25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
The disciple will become like his/her teacher. You will practice what your teacher teaches. If you have many teachers, whose teachings are in opposition to one another, you will not become like any one of them. You will formulate your own doctrine from the many teachers and often times you will become a congregation of one.
You will believe what you believe which is a smorgasbord of different teachings that cancel each other out, rendering you ineffective in discipleship or of being discipled. Many people pride themselves on being that person. Sad, but true.
People should recognize your teacher from the teachings by which you live and conduct your life.
The religious leaders knew that the disciples of Yeshua had been discipled by Yeshua.
Ac 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. Ac 4:14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
Do not fear. Father will expose or uncover the hidden things.
Mt 10:26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
Stay focused on Yeshua’s teaching and teach what He taught with understanding.
Mt 10:27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
Say what you hear Him say and do not be afraid of those who have perceived power or fear them because the worst they can do is put you to death. They have no authority over the soul which is what we should be most concerned about!
Don’t fear the false prophets, priests, Sanhedrin, synagogue rulers, or any others. Yeshua demonstrated His lack of fear before the high priests, chief priests, Pharisees, Sadducces, Herod and POTUS, I mean Pontius Pilate.
Mt 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Hell – 1067 γέεννα geenna {gheh'-en-nah}
Meaning: 1) Hell is the place of the future punishment call "Gehenna" or "Gehenna of fire". This was originally the valley of Hinnom, south of Jerusalem, where the filth and dead animals of the city were cast out and burned; a fit symbol of the wicked and their future destruction. Usage: AV - hell 9, hell fire + 3588 + 4442 3; 12
Mt 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
Father watches over the sparrow.
Mt 10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Mt 10:31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Father watches over the sparrow, but you are more valuable than many sparrows.
In this life, we will either deny ourselves or deny Yeshua in YeHoVaH. You will deny Father and Son who work intimately and intrinsically together. In fact, They are one!
When we go forth in Yeshua’s Name, we go forth in the authority and power of YeHoVaH, who sent Yeshua.
