Without order, Israel would be a lawless nation no different than the nations that surrounded them. To maintain order, YeHoVaH, in His Covenant with Israel, established incentives for obeying His Law called blessings. To discourage the Children of Israel and the nations that joined themselves to Israel from disobeying His Law, YeHoVaH made it clear in His Word what they could expect by not obeying His Law. The choices were clearly spelled out, spoken into Israel’s hearing and written in stone so that everyone knew what to expect from the choices they made: blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience.

What are the curses of disobeying YeHoVaH’s Law according to His Covenant? The curses included suffering, defeat by enemies, famine, disease, and exile from the land. These warnings were spoken to Israel, written in stone, and served as a deterrent to lawlessness, ensuring that His people remained distinct from the surrounding nations by following His righteous Commandments.
