Thursday Premiere: Micah’s House of gods

After the death of Joshua in Judges 2, the religious and spiritual life of Israel began to drastically decline. Judges Chapter 2:10-13 records, “And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not YeHoVaH, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of YeHoVaH, and served Baalim: And they forsook YeHoVaH God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked YeHoVaH to anger. And they forsook YeHoVaH, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.”

Judges 17 exposes the depth of Israel’s idolatry and examines Israel’s historical setting, the possible chronological placement of Micah’s account, the misuse of religious authority, the corruption of the Levitical ministry, and the danger of substituting religious sincerity, traditions, and personal preferences for obedience to the Word of YeHoVaH.
